The development of the new European Union safety standard EN15194 for electric power bikes (EPAC) was completed at the end of November 2008 and was included in the national standards of eu member states before July 1, 2009. Compared with the EN standard of traditional bicycle, the safety standard of the new electric power bicycle is much more complicated. Besides mechanical test, the electric circuit safety standard and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standard are also increased, which means the electric power assist car exported to the eu will face higher challenges.

1. Dc voltage shall not be higher than 48V
2. The maximum continuous rated power is 250W
3. When the speed reaches 25 km/h, the output power must be gradually reduced until finally cut off
4. Comply with eu security directive 2002/24
European Union standard EN15194:2009 main test content:
Mechanical safety section: perform mechanical safety and fatigue tests in accordance with safety requirements and test methods for bicycles used in cities and travel en 147644:2005
Electrical safety: conduct electrical experiments on the design and safety of battery, motor, controller and cable of electric power assisted bicycle
Electromagnetic compatibility: for the whole vehicle and battery, electric motor and controller of electric power bicycle for electromagnetic interference and electromagnetic sensitivity
The former general standards for electromagnetic compatibility en61000-6-1 and en61000-6-6 will no longer be applicable for sensitivity tests.
