1. What is UN38.3 certification

UN38.3 certification

Prior to delivery of lithium batteries to air transport, UN38.3 certification is required, that is, section 38.3 (UN38.3) test of part III of the United Nations (UN) recommendations on the transport of dangerous goods - test and standards manual.

2. Two requirements to be met when issuing the air transport condition appraisal report

(1) issue compliance test report.

(2) according to the packaging method of lithium battery cargo, the packaging specification of lithium battery cargo was identified according to the corresponding packaging specification of pi965-970 in accordance with IATA rules for dangerous goods.

3. What is the test item of UN38.3

Number item name test requirements

T.1 highly analog battery to be stored for at least 6 hours at pressure less than or equal to 11.6Kpa.

T. temperature test battery in 2-40 and 75 ℃ ambient temperature store 6 hours each, completed 10 cycles.

T.3 the vibrating battery is fixed on the test table for sinusoidal sweep vibration, with frequency range of 8~200Hz, maximum acceleration of 8g and amplitude of 0.8mm.

T.4 the impact battery is fixed on the test bench to undergo mechanical impact with maximum acceleration of 150g, and the pulse duration is 6ms. The specific test acceleration peak value will be calculated according to the formula formulated in standard t. 4, and the acceleration value will be calculated according to the weight of the battery and compared with 150g.

T. five external short circuit in 57 ℃ ambient temperature, with the total resistance is less than 0.1 ohms wires for external short circuit batteries.

T.6 impact/extrusion impact (applicable to cylindrical battery cells with diameter of 18mm or more) : the battery cells are knocked from 61cm height by a weight of 9.8kg and extruded (applicable to diamond, soft package, button battery cells and cylindrical battery cells with diameter of < 18mm).

T.7 the charging voltage of overcharge battery shall not be greater than 18V, and 2 times of maximum charging voltage or 22V shall be used to charge the battery at a smaller value. The battery charging voltage is greater than 18V, and the maximum charging voltage of 1.2 times is used to charge the battery.

T.8 forced discharge a completely discharged battery with a maximum discharge current.

Note: the above test conditions are only applicable to small batteries and batteries with weight less than 12 kg.

4. How long is the validity period of the air appraisal certificate

Because the IATA dangerous goods rule is updated annually, the air transport condition identification report for lithium batteries is valid for that year.
